The Ninth Station:
Jesus falls a third time
We adore you, O Christ and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world
I am the one who has seen affliction under the rod of his wrath; he has driven and brought me into darkness without any light. He has besieged me and enveloped me with bitterness and tribulation; he has made me dwell in darkness like the dead of long ago. Though I call and cry for help, he shuts out my prayer. He has made my teeth grind on gravel, and made me cower in ashes. “Remember, O Lord, my affliction and bitterness, the wormwood and the gall!”
Coming up to the place where he will be crucified, Jesus falls again. For the third time along this journey, the cross proves to be almost too much for him. Jesus is like us. Sometimes the burdens we carry become almost too much for us. For many of our veterans, life has become a burden to them. Soldier On helps those veterans carry those burdens. Soldier On provides shelter for those with no where to go, and they also provide addiction support to those that need them. Let us pray here at Soldier On for those veterans in need and for those who care for them.
A prayer for veterans of our armed forces
Heavenly Father, in every age some of your children are called to defend the human family from oppression and tyranny; we ask your blessing on all who served in our armed forces - those who rest in your peace; those who still suffer from the wounds of war in mind, body and soul; and those who, with us, enjoy the blessing of living. We ask for wisdom for the leaders of the world, that they might safeguard the peace bought with so high a price. We ask this in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer at the Ninth Station
V. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter:
R. And like a sheep that before its shearers is mute, so he opened not his mouth.
Let us pray:
O God, by the passion of your blessed Son you made an instrument of shameful death to be for us the means of life: Grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ, that we may gladly suffer sham and loss for the sake of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
