The Eleventh Station:

Jesus is nailed to the Cross

We adore you, O Christ and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world

When they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him; and with him they crucified two criminals, one on the right, the other on the left, and Jesus between them. And the scripture was fulfilled which says, “He was numbered with the transgressors.”

Jesus has been convicted of claiming to be the King of the Jews - a political and religious crime. His sentence is carried out as the soldiers nail him to the cross. Like any others, they don't understand that Jesus is the King of the Jews and the Son of God, but that Jesus' ministry is nothing like they expect. The Berkshire House of Corrections can house up to 500 inmates. These children of God serve their terms, and many work to find a new life after their time here. Many of these children of God suffer from addiction and the risk of relapse is especially high. Let us take this time to pray for those who live and work here, for the correctional officers and those who work and volunteer here, and also for the inmates and their families that they might live confident in God's love for them.

A prayer for the those in prison

Holy Father, we know that you can bring good out of evil and even life out of death, we pray for these prisoners here; that they might know that your love will never leave them or forsake them. We ask you to fill them with hope for the days ahead. For the innocent, we pray for justice. For the guilty, we pray for a spirit of humility and reconciliation, that they might ask for forgiveness and make restitution with their victims and to bring new love into the world. We pray for the families of those who live here, especially for their children. We pray also for all who work here, that they might help make build a place of safety for all your children here. Most especially, we pray for your justice in our communities, so that mercy, compassion, and love may reign. We pray through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer at the Eleventh Station

V.   They pierce my hands and my feet:

R.   They stare and gloat over me.

Let us pray:

Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name.  Amen.
